Join us for a Panel Discussion, Q&A session, meet-and-greets with individual speakers, and an Apéro!
What does a successful career as a research scientist look like? What are your career options after a PhD or postdoc? How should you leverage your academic background to get a job in industry? What should you be doing right now if you want to start your own start-up? Which path should you choose? Join us for a Career Evening to find out everything you’ve ever wanted to know about a career outside of Academia!
You’ll get the chance to meet five people who, after completion of their Ph.D. in computer science, decided to leave academia. Their backgrounds cover a range of topics, from computer graphics and vision to artificial intelligence or system security. They’re here to share their wisdom on computer science careers: what possibilities are out there, what they did well, and what they wish they’d done differently.
We’ll start with a panel discussion, where we’ll learn more about our speakers and their career paths. Then, we’ll break off into small groups for meet-and-greets, giving you a chance to ask them your burning questions in small committee! The event will end with an apéro.

Philipp Herholz is a Research Scientist at Reality Labs, Zürich, where his work contributes to the development of virtual reality. Beforehand, he was a postdoctoral researcher at ETH and completed his Ph.D. at TU Berlin. His research interests span geometry processing, simulation, numerics and sparse linear solvers.
Mark Müller is the CTO and Co-founder of LogicStar.AI, a start-up developing an AI agent that autonomously resolves bugs. He completed his PhD from ETH Zurich with a focus on provable guarantees for machine learning.
Elisa Rondini is Head of Product & Lifecycle Excellence at Siemens. She also worked in Swiss Re, an insurance company, as an Agile coach, one of the most popular project management frameworks for software development. Elisa also used to be a consultant at Zühlke. Prior to this, she obtained her Ph.D. at Oxford, where she focused on analysing the impact of wireless radio communication in performing distributed computation.
Anil Kurmus is Senior Research Scientist and Team lead at IBM Research Europe - Zurich. His interests are mainly on systems security, software security, operating systems as well as CPU microarchitecture. He holds a PhD degree from Technische Universitat Braunschweig.
Silvan Weder is the CEO and Co-Founder of JOSEPHA, a start-up that improves your online shopping experience by aggregating all relevant information for any product. He completed his Ph.D. at ETH with a focus on computer vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
