Summer Retreat 2024
The VMI Summer Retreat is for all scientific staff of the ETH Computer Science department. This year, we’re going to the stunning town of Zermatt, Switzerland!
Dates: September 7-10 and 12-15, 2024.
The retreat will be split up into two events and is fully supported by the department. This means you do not need to take vacation days to attend (but let your supervisor know once we confirm your registration).
Location: Zermatt, Switzerland.
The famous town of Zermatt lies at the foot of Switzerland’s highest peaks, including the Matterhorn! We’ll be staying at the Youth Hostel of Zermatt in 4-person bedrooms. You can look forward to plenty of scientific, cultural and social activities.
Pariticipation Fee: CHF 60
The participation fee includes transportation to Zermatt, accommodation, as well as most meals and some leisure activities. The retreat is generously supported by the department, which allows us to offer it at this low cost.
Who can participate?
All members of the scientific staff of the D-INFK department (PhD students, postdocs, research assistants, oberassistents etc.). You do not need to be a VMI member. There are around 70 spots (35 per retreat). New members of the Department are especially encouraged to participate!

You can register to be put on the waitlist here. We encourage you to register! In previous years, the waitlist was empty by the time the retreat began!
Juggling Workshop

Get ready to impress your friends with a new skill - learn to juggle balls! In just about 20 minutes, you’ll craft your very own set of juggling balls, followed by plenty of time to dive into the basics of juggling. Even if you’re already a pro at juggling, you’re welcome to join us and lend a hand in teaching others. And if you can juggle something different, feel free to bring it along! Let’s share our skills and have fun together. We’ll provide all the materials necessary to make your own juggling balls, along with complimentary snacks and drinks. See you there!

Board Game Night

Bring your friends and your favourite board games to VMI Game Night! We’ll have a selection of both light and advanced board games to try out, as well as free drinks and snacks.
Pottery

Invite your friends for an unforgettable evening with VMI! Step into the world of artistic expression with a pottery painting event that promises fun and creativity. Gather around, choose a mug, and let your imagination run wild. As you dab and swirl the colors, not only will you transform a simple ceramic into a personal masterpiece, but you’ll also create moments to cherish. Each of you will have a hand-painted item to take home, a due souvenir from our session. Join us to paint, relax, and make memories that will adorn your home as much as your heart.

We meet on Monday, February 26, at 19:00 at LOKI studio, Gubelstrasse 2, 8050 Zürich (next to Oerlikon train station).
